ARM 2019 Release Notes

Below are highlighted features and fixes added in ARM 2019.

  • See the Change Log (txt) for a complete list of all changes made in this version of ARM.
  • See ARM 2019.x Features (pdf) for a presentation of features added to ARM this year.
  • See ARM 2018.x Features (pdf) for a presentation of features added last year.

Version 2019.8

October 29, 2019

Column Diagnostics

A new tool for reviewing assessment data columns.
  • Run statistical tests for assumptions of AOV, including Levene's, Shapiro-Wilk's, Skewness and Kurtosis.
  • Tests now run on the residuals, instead of the raw data values.

ARM recommends actions for failed tests of AOV assumptions, including data correction transformations and non-parametric analysis.
  • The recommendations are based on the assumed distribution of data.
  • This is determined from Rating Type, Rating Unit, and range of data.
Outliers table appears only when outliers detected in the data column.
  • Outliers calculated by standardizing residuals to account
    for number of observations.

View diagnostic plots of the raw data, AOV residuals, and transformed residuals.

Non-parametric statistics

New ARM Action Code: AR (automatic rank transformation)
  • Performs Kruskal-Wallis or Friedman's test to rank the data
  • Performs LSD mean comparison test on rank means
  • Analysis included with other AOV columns on report

Why non-parametric?
  • ANOVA has assumptions that must be met, otherwise results may not be valid
  • Non-parametric analysis does not have these restrictions
  • Use non-parametric when:
    • Data cannot be corrected to fit assumptions of AOV
    • Data is not real-valued, like counts or index scales

Additional Features

  • Site Description > General Trial
    • Visually verify the accuracy of trial GPS coordinates.

Version 2019.4

August 5, 2019

Additional Features

  • Trial Fact Sheet report
    • New report 'Trial Fact Sheet' provides a trial synopsis. Useful for trial tours or a general overview of a study.

  • Study Rules
    • New rule 'Consistent entries across Rating Timing' auto-fills and maintains the same entry in the chosen field, across the same Rating Timing value.

    • New rule 'Value greater than 0' requires that a real entry is entered once available. Useful for fields that are auto-filled from Settings, which cannot be left blank.

    • Customize the background color of required and recommended fields. Tools > Options > Display tab > Colors option.

  • Applications
    • Renamed 'Spray Volume' field to Application Amount to be more generic for all treatment/application types.
      • Found on Treatments editor, Protocol/Site Description, and Settings > Application tab.

    • Application-related fields on the Treatments editor are now read-only and filled from Protocol/Site Description.
      • Includes Appl Timing (previously Growth Stage), Mix Size, and Appl Amount (previously Spray Volume)

  • Trial Map
    • Display an arrow indicating trial orientation from North. This arrow only displays if an Orientation value is entered in General Settings.

  • Hidden fields with information
    • Changed to automatically show fields that are hidden from view but contain information when opening a study the first time. This removes the "Hidden Study Editor Fields Containing Information" prompt.

Version 2019.3

May 10, 2019

Custom Labels

  • Create custom labels by exporting treatment/plot information to a .csv file.
  • Use Mail Merge in a word processor to create your own labels.
  • See Creating Custom Labels with ARM (pdf) to learn how!

Import weather data from any weather source

Create a custom weather connection to import weather data from any weather source csv file. Watch our tutorial video to see how!
  • Define connection between your CSV and ARM fields (in Application or Weather tabs of Site Description)
  • Daily weather: specify what dates to import data from file
  • Hourly weather: imports into Application based on Start and Stop times

Quick View toolbar

  • Automatically filter visible Crop Description fields by task.
  • Simplifies interface to view/enter only pertinent information.

Additional Features

  • File > Print Reports
    • Added option to print product amount and unit in separate columns.

    • Fixed so the chosen 'homogeneity of variance test' option (Levene's or Bartlett's) is used for verifying assumptions of AOV to determine if data correction techniques should be applied.

  • Window
    • Improved appearance of toolbar buttons

    • Now value+unit and code+description fields display as one checkbox in the 'Hidden Fields' list on the Properties panel.

  • Window > Site Description
    • Changed so all user-hidden fields are completely removed from view, instead of just greyed out. This behavior is controlled by new option Tools > Options > Editor > Completely hide user-hidden fields.

    • Changed so Test Facility is now connected to a blank validation list. Previously was connected to an outdated master list that is unrealistic to maintain.

Version 2019.2

February 27, 2019

Additional Features

  • Treatments
    • Added new treatment type 'DEFO' for Defoliant. A defoliant is a herbicial chemical sprayed or dusted, causing leaves to fall off. A common use is for cotton prior to harvest.

  • Window - Properties Panel
    • Changed to not scroll back to the top of the Hidden Fields list when selecting a field. Now is much easier to make multiple fields visible at a time.

  • Study Rules
    • The default permissions is now "Everyone in my company" for new rules.

Version 2019.1

February 1, 2019

SE Definitions

Plan and define standard evaluations (SEs) and tasks to use in the study.

To add an SE to the study:
  1. Display the SE name validation list.
  2. Select an SE from the list (can use filter features to search).
  3. Preview assessment column(s) defined in SE.

  • Use Tools > Build Headers to insert SEs into assessment header.
  • Define multiple rating timings for an SE to insert SE multiple times into the header.
    • Example: Two-column SE times 3 rating timings A1-A3 = 6 total data columns.

Track Trial Progress

Added new fields to track status and progress throughout the season.
  • ARM Trial Created On
  • Application Entry Date
  • Assessment Data Entry Date
  • Crop and Pest Entry Dates

Additional Features

  • Study Header
    • Added 'Trial Origin' field to identify whether the trial is performed in-house, contracted, or by a public institution. (This field was also added to the Trial Location table in the protocol Trial Establishment Guidelines.)

  • Site Description
    • Changed so Site Description headings are bold and left-justified, making headings easier to notice especially on larger displays.

    • Added new fields to document additional weather details at time of application.

  • Help > Deactivate this ARM
    • Changed to prompt to build a migration package during deactivation process. ARM now also prompts to load a migration package on a new computer before displaying ARM options.

Fixes

  • Site Description
    • Fixed an issue where weather import was very slow in trials containing many study rules.

  • Assessment Data
    • Fixed an error 9 that occured when clicking into Plot Description cells.

  • Print Reports
    • Fixed so 'NM' Action Code correctly reports treatment means when data from replicate 1 is missing.
    • Fixed so AUDPC calculates even if Pest Code, Rating Unit, or Rating Type are blank.
