1. What is your history in the industry and with ARM?

I started my career in 1998 as a sales representative in Bayer Crop Science in India and moved to the product development team in 2007. Since then, I have been using ARM, an excellent tool for researchers. I got several opportunities to learn this tool and was trained in the Philippines and Monheim.

After that, I worked in some Indian companies where I recommended using ARM, and they decided to increase the user base. I provided several trainings for Indian and Asia Pacific teams. In 2018, I also organized a training program along with a GDM representative for LATAM users.

I have also seen other tools, and I truly believe that ARM is versatile and has more features than any existing research tool. A great part of ARM is that it is continuously evolving, updating, and upgrading as per the user's needs.

2. What do you hope your clients can gain from you supporting them?

Having a local representative will add a lot of value to the Indian customers.

With my expertise, Indian customers can get real-time support (email, WhatsApp, phone, and one-on-one meetings). Clients can easily approach me for any queries as I am in the same time zone, and we can have conversations in the local language. They can also easily purchase new licenses/ renewals directly in India.

3. What things do you enjoy outside of research?

Mostly, I prefer to spend time with family during my free time, meeting friends and relatives, and celebrating festivals and functions.

My other interests include watching local news and movies, traveling, and photography.

1. What is your history in the industry and with ARM?

I have been working full-time in the agro-chemical R&D industry for 30 years. When I started as a student intern, we captured data in Lotus 123 and ran statistical analysis in another "dos" stats program. This meant we had to re-enter the data every time we wanted to do a transformation or run a different statistical analysis. Reports were written on a typewriter, and graphs and tables had to be manually entered again! With the advent of the PC and ARM, data is captured once, and the layout of the program is logical and systematic, so creating reports is much more efficient. All the information is captured and organized logically.

I have been using ARM for over 20 years as a contract researcher, and I have experienced the value it adds to organizing, executing, and reporting trials. I'm not a computer software guy; I'm a daily ARM user who knows and trusts the software.

2. What do you hope your clients can gain from you supporting them?

There's no value in driving your 4x4 vehicle on tar roads only!
ARM is such a powerful tool that was developed specifically for the R&D industry; If you have it, you might as well use it to its full capability! I strive to empower ARM users to use the program optimally.

3. What things do you enjoy outside of research?

Like a lot of people in the R&D field, I love the outdoors! I love taking walks in the mountains around Wellington (Western Cape of South Africa) with my wife and our dogs. Otherwise, I'm out trail riding on my mountain bike or surfing with our children.
All of this gives me a good excuse to enjoy my other pastime, which is eating good food with family! My wife is an excellent cook and loves to prepare good food for friends and family.

1. What is your history in the industry and with ARM?

My history in the industry began very early—my first memories of ARM date back to the 2000s when I was about 6 years old. My parents, biologist Alma Parra and agronomist Pedro Posos started using the software years before. My father had worked for almost 10 years in R&D at FMC in Mexico, and it was through conducting biological effectiveness studies that I began my career and my initial studies, helping in the field. This included marking the stakes with the randomization that ARM had generated, applying pesticides, assessing the damage with visual scales, and then running the “Abbott equation” to calculate the control. In 2008, my parents started a small CRO company called Conviviendo con la Naturaleza, which I have seen grow and currently direct with my mom. Dawn and Kyle found me by chance when I started my PhD in Entomology at Michigan State University. Fortunately, they gave me the great opportunity to advise and represent this incredible and unique software in Latin America.

2. What do you hope your clients can gain from you supporting them?

Mainly breaking the language barrier. I identify with my clients because I grew up in a country where speaking English is a sought-after skill but limited for many. What excites me most about talking with my clients is learning what they want in the software and how we, as representatives, can offer it to them. I tell them that my field experience has allowed me to address their concerns more effectively and realistically. The advantage of speaking Spanish fills me with joy that I can be that bridge of communication between GDM and its Latin clients.

3. What things do you enjoy outside of research?

I really enjoy reading about emotional development, flying, and cooking. I also practice backyard archery and enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Learning is an interesting path, and at almost 30 years old, I want to learn a lot and someday have the experience and knowledge I greatly admire in other representatives. “We are GDM!”

1. What is your history in the industry and with ARM?

My background has largely been with conduct of regulatory and experimental (GLP/GEP) field trials, ecotoxicology and efficacy.  As a Biopesticides Specialist/Consultant for the last 10 years, I have been planning, monitoring and reviewing  protocols and reports for field trials.  ARM has always been the go-to software and I’ve worked with it throughout my 25 years in the Crop Protection Industry.  I continue to work with a large network of manufacturers, CROs, and research bodies using ARM also.

2. What do you hope your clients can gain from you supporting them?

A friendly and quick response with a good level of support, aided by in-depth understanding of the industry where ARM is used.

3. What things do you enjoy outside of research?

X-Motorcycle racer and still regularly riding sports bikes on track as my main hobby, although I really should stop soon.  Love family with six children ranging from 11 to 37 years old and still enjoying being childish with all of them and their children.

1. What is your history in the industry and with ARM?

I began in 1998 as a Field Technician Assistant in GEP trials and soon began carrying out trials as a Trial Specialist. In 2014, I founded FTS AgroConsulting with a colleague to offer high-quality GEP trials under our philosophy. I started using ARM 6 in 2002 and have worked with the software since.

2. What do you hope your clients can gain from you supporting them?

A reliable and quick solution to ensure any problems do not interfere with the clients’ planned day. We do our best to keep a personal connection to our clients to offer the best solution. In FTS, to achieve this goal, we have two technical consultants plus someone to answer administrative questions.

3. What things do you enjoy outside of research?

I enjoy any activities that involve family, especially if it is around a meal. I have a little dog, and my hobbies include photography. Although I am not young, I enjoy a football match every Friday night with my friends.

1. What is your history in the industry and with ARM?

In 1990, I started with Monsanto as a product development representative, where part of my job involved conducting field trials. I was a member of the trial software development team that selected PRM4 from GDM as the tool for managing Monsanto field trials. PRM4 and PRM5 served as the precursors to ARM software. In 1996, I moved to ISK Biosciences Europe as a regional product development manager for several countries. I introduced the software in ISK's field development work and BAD development, which I managed for the entire European team from 1998 to 2001. In 2001, I joined EDEN Biosciences, where I introduced ARM into the field development coordination work. However, in 2002, EDEN Biosciences ceased its operations in Europe, and I subsequently started my own company, Agricultural Development Consulting, now known as ADC GmbH. Alongside offering trial organization services across Europe and writing BADs for the industry, I began supporting and selling the software products of the ARM family.

2. What do you hope your clients can gain from you supporting them?

When customers encounter software issues, they typically need immediate solutions rather than a support ticket or an automated voice on the phone. I strive to be available promptly whenever possible. I aim to resolve technical issues through email, phone calls, WhatsApp, and screen sharing via TeamViewer. I treat the customers' issues as my own, with the objective of ensuring they don't waste time. The ARM software significantly enhances efficiency, and I endeavor to demonstrate how it can increase efficacy by creating meaningful protocols, documenting field trial work, and summarizing results. I share my ARM experience, from the experiment planning phase to reporting and data summary for registration purposes.

3. What things do you enjoy outside of research?

Since I was a young boy, I have dedicated much of my spare time to working on a neighboring farm. Over time, I was fortunate to merge this hobby with my profession. Perhaps that's why I still derive enjoyment from what I do. As for other hobbies, they are closely related to working in nature: I am a passionate hunter and also train dogs for hunting, both for myself and my friends.

Melissa joined the GDM team as a Representative in 2019, covering Australia and New Zealand.

1. What is your history in the industry and with ARM?

I was first introduced to ARM when working for Dow AgroSciences in the Australian crop protection research team back in 2006. I was with Dow for 10 years, with ARM being the core software product used for all data generation and capture from field trials, as well as for analysis and reporting of data. I have also used the software when working with other smaller research teams and I now work alongside GDM to provide support and training to the Australian/New Zealand customer base who work with ARM in their research.

2. What do you hope your clients can gain from you supporting them?

My aim is that clients have a positive experience with ARM from the very start. With good training and support clients can get a lot out of the power of the software. This then makes their jobs as researchers easier and more effective, whilst improving the quality of data that they are generating. It’s a super powerful program that does many things in many ways, but if I can simplify it and show them short cuts and tricks then this helps them grow in confidence when using the program. I am also always looking for feedback from new and old users as to how the program could be better for the end user, so encourage this constantly.

3. What things do you enjoy outside of research?

Outside of work and helping clients with ARM, my time off involves hanging with my family (2 girls and husband David), working on our small property and building and renovating. But my biggest love and because I spend way too much time in the office these days, trail running is my outlet. I am lucky to live close to fantastic national parks that allow for hours to be wasted running around in the bush. I have been known to run events of 50-100 km’s for the challenge and fun of it. It’s really just an excuse to be outside, eat whatever you want and have fun.

Representative Spotlight: Pavan

Pavan joined the GDM team as a Representative in 2021, covering the country of Brazil.

1. What is your history in the industry and with ARM?

I worked for 40 years in R&D at Dow AgroSciences Brasil. I started my career as a field researcher and among many other responsibilities I played a role as Project Leader for Latin America. In 1987, ARM was implemented at Dow Latin America as the standard tool for trials management. I have been an ARM user since then and in the last five years of activities at the company, in addition to being a user, I was also responsible for Biological Information Management for Latin America. I actively participated in the demand for new ARM features as well as their validation before releasing them to other company colleagues around the world.

2. What do you hope your clients can gain from you supporting them?

I am sure that GDM's decision in having a representative in Brazil will add a lot of value to the customers. With the large experience I have in using ARM (30+ years), our customers will have real-time support (email, WhatsApp, phone and in many cases face-to-face), in local language (Portuguese) and will also be able to purchase new licenses and/or renewals directly in Brazil and in local currency (less bureaucracy for the client). Also, in a near future, specific features may be developed to attend local needs.

3. What things do you enjoy outside of research?

Because I was born on my grandfather's farm and had my childhood and youth in a small town in the interior of São Paulo (typically agricultural region), I always liked to play soccer, fish, and ride a bike. I confess that for a period of my life I couldn't practice such activities often as I should but, now I'm at full steam putting these activities into practice which, in addition to doing good for the body, is a great opportunity to maintain excellent friendships. Over the past three years, one of my childhood dreams has come true: I'm a music student and I'm learning to play the Sax Alto. This has been great for keeping me active; obtain new knowledge, improve my motor skills, and make new friendships.
